Who likes tacos? Who likes pizza? Then what's not to love about Taco Pizza?!
Yummy chewy and crunchy pizza crust + taco toppings = so very delicious. It's a mash-up of two already delicious foods so of course it's awesome.
This recipe came from a cute little cookbook that Pete's aunt made as family Christmas presents in 2004...it's adorable. The cover is a family photo of his aunt and cousins and they're all wearing their kilts. Which has nothing to do with taco pizza, but it's a family cookbook! And it's cute. 🙂
In my humble opinion, one of the strokes of genius here is mixing a cup of salsa in when the meat is almost finished cooking - right after you mix in the taco seasoning. It makes it take on an almost ragù-like texture, and it is so hearty and delicious.
Side note - you should definitely make your own taco seasoning. It is SO MUCH BETTER than the packets. And it's a combination of pretty common spices so I bet you won't even have to buy anything new! Mix up a big batch and keep it in with your spices. You will be so glad you did.
We made our own pizza dough! I know making bread can seem intimidating but this recipe was SO easy. Try it!
And then you know...cheese. Because tacos have cheese, and pizza has cheese, so - I think you see where I'm going here.
Bake it up and top it with all of your favorite taco fixins!
We used lettuce, tomato, diced red onion, avocado and sour cream.
Please forgive my slightly misshapen crust. It didn't want to slide off the pizza peel...make sure you use enough cornmeal on the bottom of the pizza if you're baking it on a pizza stone. But hey - it's more rustic and homey that way, right?
This combines some of the best parts of tacos with the foundation of pizza. Honestly, it's just so good (and pretty!). Yummy noises await you!
